Daini Seikosha t-shirt
Established in 1937 in Kameido, Tokyo, Daini Seikosha (meaning "Second Seikosha") was created by spinning off the wristwatch division of the original Seikosha factory to increase production. During World War II, the factory was destroyed, forcing production to relocate to evacuation sites, including the Suwa plant. After the war, the Suwa facility became independent as Suwa Seikosha in 1959, sparking a famous internal rivalry between the two factories to drive innovation. While Suwa became the birthplace of Grand Seiko, Daini Seikosha countered by creating the King Seiko line in 1961 to offer high-end accuracy and design. Daini eventually produced its own iconic Grand Seiko models, such as the 44GS, which established the enduring "Grand Seiko Style". Today, Daini Seikosha operates as Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII), with its primary watch manufacturing base at Morioka Seiko Instruments in Iwate prefecture.
