Suwa Seikosha t-shirt

$27.00 - $38.50

Suwa Seikosha originated in 1942 as Daiwa Kogyo, a subcontracted watch parts factory founded by former Seiko employee Hisao Yamazaki in Suwa, Nagano. During World War II, it served as a remote evacuation site for the Daini Seikosha plant in Tokyo, and in 1959, the two entities merged to officially form Suwa Seikosha. This established a period of intense but friendly internal rivalry with Daini Seikosha that fueled rapid horological innovation. Suwa became the primary engineering hub for luxury precision, launching the first Grand Seiko in 1960 and pioneering the world’s first commercial quartz watch, the Astron, in 1969. Its engineering breakthroughs for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, specifically the development of compact printing timers, eventually gave rise to the Epson brand. Today, the company operates as Seiko Epson Corporation, continuing to produce high-end Grand Seiko models—including the Spring Drive and 9F Quartz movements—at its Shinshu Watch Studio in Nagano.
